Have you been wanting to become more physically active but aren’t thrilled about joining a gym or going to just any group fitness class? Well, waist hooping may be just the thing that you’ve been missing. It’s a fun activity that just about anyone can do. It may seem challenging at first, but once you get the hang of it, it’s easy to get hooked.
When I picked up my first adult sized hoop over a handful of years ago, I was looking for something fun to do that didn’t feel like tedious and painful work. While I’m no stranger to putting in work at the gym, I wanted to diversify my fitness regime so I then purchased my first weighted fitness hoop and got to work. I dropped it quite a bit but not as much as I thought I would. See here’s the thing; I was already at an advantage by choosing a hoop that was right for me, meaning a hoop with a little weight on it. I didn’t know until after the fact how much a slightly heavier hoop improves your ability to control your hoop. More on that in my blog entitled: 3 Steps to Waist Hooping.
I learned a great lesson that day and began an amazing hooping journey that lead me to become a hoop fitness instructor for my own company. I find it very rewarding and love every minute of teaching class and providing folks with information about the benefits of hooping….
While there are many benefits to waist hooping, I decided to write about what I feel to be the top 4. Without further to do, here they are:
1. Core Conditioning with Posture Improvements
Not too fond of sit ups or floor ab exercises in general? You’re in luck. Waist hooping has been known to strengthen and aid in tightening your core. The small, yet controlled motion used to keep a hoop up stimulates those muscles that many of us, including yours truly, could use help with. In addition to conditioning your core, hooping can improve your posture. See, in order to keep the hoop up for a bit, a person will have to stand tall and demonstrate good posture which can spill over to your everyday posture if done enough.
2. A Fun Cardiovascular Workout
Within minutes of getting that hoop going, you will notice an increase in your heart's rate and could even be starting to break a sweat. There are a lot of numbers thrown out there when it comes to the average amount of calories burned waist hooping. I don’t really like to promote these numbers as the amount of calories a person will burn during a particular exercise can greatly vary depending on numerous factors.
I would just concentrate on having fun with the activity in general if I were you and the calorie burning will come naturally.
3. Tones Muscles
As you get hooping down, you will start to notice changes in your entire body. As you are keeping a hoop up with motions around your waist line area, you are toning the area. I usually feel it mostly in my lower body, but I've found that you end up working your arms as well-especially if you are incorporating arm movements while you hoop. You have to keep those arms out of the way while you hoop. You may as well work them too!
4. Improves Overall Mood
It’s often said in hooping forums and groups that it’s impossible to hoop and not smile. I feel this is true in the sense that doing something you enjoy releases positive endorphins that will improve your overall mood throughout the day.
As I mentioned in the beginning, there are many benefits to waist hooping. I decided to write about my favorite ones. Are there any benefits that you’ve found from hooping? Please feel free to comment below.
